Karla Perez

 

Karla Perez Toralla is a post-doctoral Research Associate in the Morin Group at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Her current line of work involves the development of lab-on-chip devices and the integration of new surface functionalization and microfabrication strategies for the study of biological systems.

In 2013, Karla obtained her PhD from the Paris Diderot University in Paris, France, working at the Institut Curie under the supervision of Prof. Jean Louis Viovy. She developed a complete toolbox for the fabrication of thermoplastic microdevices and built an integrated microfluidic platform for the implementation of cellular and molecular biology protocols. From 2013 to 2016 she completed a post-doctoral research project in the Biomedical department at the University of Paris Descartes, in the Translational Research and Microfluidics group led by Prof. Valerie Taly. During this time, she worked in collaboration with biologists and clinicians to develop and validate a miniaturized device for the efficient analysis of circulating tumor biomarkers and prototyped an integrated device for droplet-based PCR.

Karla joined UNL during the summer of 2016 to work on a research project dealing with the use of adaptive micro-patterned PDMS substrates, combining mechanical and pneumatic actuation for the fabrication of soft biosensors and bioreactors.
